Government Plans to Scrap DLA

2011-06-10 3:54 pm

We are all well aware of the government cuts going on, as it affects nearly everyone, but plans to scrap the Disability Living Allowance (DLA) have not been fully publicised, and this is a great shame, as many people are not aware of the problems it may cause.

Possible outcomes of scrapping the DLA may mean that disabled people could be forced into demeaning and unnecessary medical testing, and have their benefit reduced or even withdrawn. Some believe that because the DLA can be spent on every day essentials rather than personal care, some claims were not genuine.

The government proposes to put a new benefit scheme in place called The Personal Independence Payment (PIP). The components within this scheme may alter what is meant by the term mobility, for example, if you are a wheelchair user who can still leave the house, you will not qualify as being 'disabled'.

The only advice I can suggest is to install a stairlift in your house. It will give you some peace of mind, and you never know, maybe that will prove to the government that you qualify for health benefits!

Has summer come and gone?

2011-06-08 10:28 am

I'm a bit worried that we're not going to have any real summer this year, it's looking pretty gloomy so far. We've been promised two heatwaves that turned into nothing, and the unseasonable weather we had in April is the only real heat and sunshine we've had!

I've shoved all the summer dresses, tops, skirts and shorts back into the back of my wardrobe from which I recently dug them out, and am back in my old faithful jeans, hoodies and jackets. I'm even keeping an umbrella by my bag, and by the front door so I don't get caught in a downpour!

I really hope it brightens up, this sort of weather is so miserable this time of year, it should be at least a bit warmer, and with clearer blue skies instead of this horrible grey overcast clouds, which feels quite claustrophobic.

A Good Buy

I lost my digital camera last year and it wasn’t insured. So I have been saving for a little while and have been biding my time to get a new one.

However, for my usage and where I take my camera I only really need an old one that takes a good picture. So I went on Ebay and found a great offer for one.

I paid £40 for a top of the range new camera, a camera case, the battery and it also came with two memory cards.

It was a bargain and it works perfectly fine and is just what I need! I am very chuffed!

My Love of Maxi Dresses

2011-05-09 3:27 pm

I can’t get enough of wearing a good old maxi dress! They are so comfortable and look great whether it is mega hot or slightly nippy.

I have bought so many, some with patterns some plain and they go great with a woolly shrug for a warm evening in a beer garden or a funky jean jacket to go shopping in.

What is nice about them is if you feel like you are having a fat day then they don’t cling too much so you still fee great. My only slight issue is I worry someone else will be in the same one as I have got on, which would not be good!

My next purchase is this one:

It has been exclusively designed by Lipsy for Asos and at the moment is half price at £35. Now I know it might not be to everyone’s taste by I think it is one of those dresses that look better on than off! Trust me!

Cowboy Providers

2011-04-18 11:40 am

I’m going to take this opportunity for once to use my blog and social standing to impart a little wisdom. Call it the knowledge of hindsight and experience if you will. I own a faily large company which runs a variety of computers across a fairly large network. We use the network in house to obviously do business as well as actively communicating with clients across the globe. I wouldn’t say that I am threatening Alan Sugar or anything but, my business is pretty successful and we work hard. I recently set up with a Managed Hosting Provider in order to increase productivity on the production line so to speak.

I was expecting to not only get my own server but also to get a decent team ad-hoc with the fee to tackle any possible problems that might arise. I had the server fine for the first 6 months and literally had no problems at all. Then we had a bit of a crash and had to ring the tecchys. To which I was immediately told that after installation I should have hired my own tech people as theirs did not come in with the price. Now I’m sorry, but how can you only loan a server to someone without throwing in the people to maintain it? Where do you even hire those kind of people from in the last minute?
