There
are many benefits associated with joining KBCI...
Members
of the scheme share a much higher quality of intelligence
than was previously available, making better use of the information
to identify the individuals who persistently shoplift.
The
information then allows a more targeted & focused response
to catch & deter the lifestyle criminals by retailers & the
Police.
Convicted
offenders will be banned from those stores on the scheme.
Some
of the Benefits...
Radio
Network
All
stores are issued with a radio that is linked to the CCTV
Control Room which in turn has a direct link to the Police
Control Room. Stores can monitor in real-time the activities
and movement of criminals within the town centre, and update
the CCTV Control Room.
Civil
Recovery Scheme
Civil
recovery allows a business to use the civil law to reclaim
costs and losses from a thief. This is a free benefit of being
a KBCI member and any costs recovered are in addition to any
action that the Police will take against the criminal. To

Thumb
Print Scheme
Members
have an option to participate in this scheme. Customers are
asked to leave a thumb print on an ink pad which helps to
deter cheque and credit card fraud. Used in many other parts
of the country the success of the scheme has been outstanding.

Banning
Orders
Via
intelligence reports submitted by stores, lifestyle criminals
are selected as targets and if they subsequently re-offend
in member stores, they are banned from all stores. Once banned
from members' stores any further offending will result in
this information being disclosed to the court and a more
Substantial
sentencing should result.
Exclusion
Posters
On
joining the scheme all member stores are issued with an exclusion
poster which can be displayed in their window. This not only
shows that the store is a member of the scheme but also instructs
the excluded person that they are not permitted to enter that
store.
Regular
Meetings
Meetings
normally take place every two months. Each meeting is a two
way process where the Police and the Committee can update
members but also gives feedback from members to the Committee
on current problems and how the scheme can be improved.
